Central Connecticut Holds Off Quinnipiac in 84-80 Victory
The Central Connecticut men’s basketball team defeated Quinnipiac, 84-80, on Saturday in New Britain, CT. Devin Haid led four Blue Devils in double figures with 24 points, tying a personal best, while Max Frazier added 17 points and nine rebounds in his first career start.
Haid shot 8-of-11 overall, while Frazier went 7-of-8 from the floor. Davonte Sweatman contributed 14 points, and Jayden Brown had 12. Central shot 30-of-49 (.612) from the field and 8-of-18 (.444) from three-point range but struggled at the foul line, going 16-of-28 (.571).
Amarri Monroe led the Bobcats with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Quinnipiac shot 28-of-64 (.438) overall and 9-of-26 (.346) from beyond the arc, with a solid 15-of-19 (.789) performance at the free-throw line.

Key Moments
Central took a 13-12 lead five minutes into the game on a three-pointer by Haid. However, Quinnipiac responded with an 11-0 run, including two three-pointers by Ryan Mabrey, to go ahead 23-13.
The Blue Devils’ defense limited the Bobcats to two field goals in the final 10:47 of the first half. Brown’s layup ended a scoring drought for CCSU and sparked a 28-11 run. Brody Limeric’s three-pointer made it 39-32, and Haid’s jumper just before halftime extended the lead to 41-34.
Quinnipiac opened the second half with a 15-8 run, tying the game at 49-49 on Mabrey’s three-pointer with 16:16 left.
Central responded with eight straight points, including two free throws by Darin Smith, Jr., to regain the lead at 57-49. The Blue Devils maintained their advantage, taking their largest lead at 78-66 after five consecutive points by Sweatman with 2:39 remaining.
The Bobcats closed the gap with a 14-4 run, cutting the deficit to 82-80 on Savion Lewis’s layup with 21 seconds left. Joe Ostrowsky sealed the game with two free throws as Quinnipiac missed a three-pointer on its final possession.
