Being the face of a league often hinges on a player’s immense popularity among fans. In the WNBA, Caitlin Clark appears to have achieved that status despite playing just one season in the league.
Clark entered the WNBA following a remarkable NCAA career, where she was widely celebrated as the next big star in women’s basketball.
While Clark still has plenty of room to grow in her game, her global popularity is difficult to match by any other WNBA player.

However, the WNBA has yet to fully capitalize on Clark’s popularity through effective marketing. At the same time, many argue that the league should focus its promotional efforts on A’ja Wilson instead.
Former NBA player Jim Jackson offered a compelling perspective on this debate, using Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant as examples.
“There’s a reason why Steph Curry, who may not be the best player, draws differently,” Jackson said. “He can be marketed in ways other players, like Kevin Durant—who may be considered better—cannot.”
