NBA superstar Joel Embiid found himself ejected from Monday night’s game after an explosive confrontation with a female referee.
The heated moment occurred during the second quarter of the 76ers’ matchup against the San Antonio Spurs when Embiid was called for an offensive foul.
Bleacher Report shared the incident, writing:
> “Joel Embiid was FURIOUS after picking up an offensive foul on Wemby 😳
Embiid was hit with two techs and was ejected 😬”
The Philadelphia center, wearing a protective mask due to a sinus injury sustained earlier this month, was visibly enraged by the call. He stormed over to referee Jenna Schroeder and began yelling, closing the distance until he was just inches from her face.
Schroeder acted quickly, ejecting Embiid for his behavior, which only seemed to escalate his anger. Teammates intervened to prevent the situation from spiraling further.
Despite losing their star player, the 76ers managed to secure a 111-106 victory. After the game, Embiid returned to the court to celebrate with his team but left the arena without speaking to reporters.
The NBA has yet to announce if Embiid will face additional disciplinary action for the outburst.
