Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke to the media following the team’s 111-105 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Monday at Chase Center, expressing confidence in Dennis Schröder’s potential despite a slow start.
Schröder, acquired in a recent trade, has yet to make a significant impact for the Warriors. However, Kerr remains optimistic about his contributions, emphasizing patience as the guard adjusts to his new team.
“It’s his third game with us, so it’s going to take some time,” Kerr said after the loss. “But I love what I see from Dennis in terms of his ball pressure. I thought he was excellent defensively. He’s a streaky shooter, and I’ve seen him heat up before. It’s just a matter of time before he starts knocking them down. There will be nights where the shots don’t fall, but Dennis is a great addition, and I know he’ll help us win a lot of games.”
Schröder struggled in Monday’s game, finishing with nine points, three assists, and no rebounds in 30 minutes. He shot 3-for-9 from the field and posted a team-worst minus-22 rating.
Despite the slow start, Schröder has shown flashes of his potential. After averaging 18.4 points and 6.6 assists per game with the Brooklyn Nets earlier this season, he’s averaged 7.7 points and 3.7 assists in his first three games with Golden State. The Warriors are 1-2 since his arrival.
The team acquired Schröder to bolster their offense alongside Stephen Curry. While his shooting hasn’t been consistent, Kerr remains confident in his ability to contribute.
With the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline still weeks away, the Warriors have time to evaluate Schröder’s fit and determine whether additional roster moves are needed.
