The WNBA offseason may be quiet, but fans will soon see some of their favorite players back in action when the “Unrivaled” basketball league tips off in January. On Tuesday afternoon, the up-and-coming league made a significant Cameron Brink announcement, drawing a swift response from the Los Angeles Sparks star.
Expectations were high for Brink during her rookie season in the WNBA after being selected second overall by the Sparks in the 2024 draft. Unfortunately, her season was cut short after just 15 games due to a torn ACL.
Since then, Brink has been focused on her recovery, aiming for a return to the court with the Sparks in 2025. On Tuesday, “Unrivaled” revealed that Brink secured one of the final wild card spots left after the league’s initial roster unveiling. In response to the announcement, Brink shared a three-word message with her fans: “Let’s do this!” she posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, reacting to the official Unrivaled Basketball post.
Brink signed a multi-year deal with the Lunar Owls, though the agreement comes with a catch. Since she’s still not fully recovered, she won’t be able to play during the upcoming 2025 season. Instead, she’s targeting a 2026 debut once she’s back to full strength.
Fespite her limited rookie season, Brink showed glimpses of her potential with the Sparks. She averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 39.8% from the floor. She also contributed defensively, averaging 2.3 blocks and 1.1 steals per game.
“Unrivaled,” founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, is a new three-on-three league designed to help players stay sharp during the WNBA’s long offseason while also providing additional income opportunities.
Though fans will have to wait to see Brink make her “Unrivaled” debut, it’s clear she’s excited about the opportunity. In the meantime, she’ll keep working behind the scenes as she prepares for her return with the Sparks.
