Aliyah Boston has made history as the first athlete from Worcester Academy to have her jersey retired.
The 6-foot-5-inch forward/center for the Indiana Fever earned Gatorade Massachusetts Player of the Year honors three consecutive seasons while playing for the Hilltoppers.
Boston led South Carolina to a national championship in 2022, became the No. 1 pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, and has since emerged as a two-time All-Star with the Indiana Fever. Alongside Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, Boston has helped position the Fever as rising contenders in the league.
Originally from the Virgin Islands, Boston guided Worcester Academy to a 24–1 record and a second consecutive New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class A championship in 2019.
Speaking at her alma mater on Saturday, she called the honor a “blessing.”
“To the young ones in here, I just want you guys to dream big,” Boston encouraged. “No matter what the situation is, no matter what it looks like, dream big.”
Reflecting on her journey, Boston said it’s “crazy to think” that a young girl from an island who wrote down her goals could achieve such success. She described her time at Worcester Academy as the “best time” of her life and expressed joy at reconnecting with friends and family she hadn’t seen in a while.
“It felt so good,” Boston shared. “It’s so exciting to be back at Worcester Academy, on campus, and getting my jersey retired.”
