Angel Reese may have moved on to the WNBA’s Chicago Sky, but her presence is still a major topic for LSU’s women’s basketball team.
The Tigers travel with the energy and popularity of a world-famous music act, drawing recognition and admiration wherever they go. Whether it’s fans crowding hotel lobbies or lingering long after road games, the demand for autographs, photos, and interactions with the team remains constant.
Coach Kim Mulkey encourages her players to embrace this spotlight.
“You compartmentalize,” Mulkey told the Sun-Times. “When we’re on the floor for practice, we don’t have all those people hanging from the rafters—we’re working. When it’s game time, it’s like putting on a performance, like a concert.
“When that game is over, whether you played good, bad, or indifferent, we have an obligation to give back. If signing an autograph or taking a picture is all that’s required, then we need to do it.”
Even amid the fanfare, one question keeps coming up.
“A lot of people still ask us, ‘Where’s Angel?’” forward Aneesah Morrow said.
Morrow, who transferred to LSU from DePaul after playing high school basketball at Simeon, explained that Reese has moved on to new opportunities. After wrapping up a historic rookie season in the WNBA, Reese is in Florida preparing for Unrivaled, a three-on-three league co-founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier.
Morrow smiled as she shared what she tells fans: “She’s doing her own thing.”
As LSU navigates this new chapter, the team is still working through adjustments.
“Being able to have our [point guard],” Morrow said when asked about LSU’s priorities. “We switch a lot. Figuring that out and just playing together. With the change of the [point guard], we can never really get the flow.”
Senior transfer Shayeann Day-Wilson had started eight of LSU’s first nine games before suffering an ankle injury on Dec. 5 against Stanford. She missed the next four games but could return Sunday against Albany.
Still, even with Day-Wilson available, Mulkey has yet to commit to her as LSU’s permanent lead guard.
